Viber 5.0.2

Metaphisics

What is it with these mobile messengers? They all need your phone number to create an account. You might get paranoid about it but if you ask me, once you've signed up for at least one such messenger, you can safely register for all of them because it makes no further difference. Come on, there are so many… things that can spy on you that an alphabet agency or an ill intended hacker makes no difference really. Considering that you can only see a tiny band out of the entire light spectrum, there could be a stadium full of entities that are following your every move and could be watching you right now. Makes you think twice about navigating on private tabs, doesn't it?

Viber

Viber is a beautiful looking app that that allows users to send text messages and initiate free or low rate calls. I’m really not in the mood about explaining this again but the basic idea is that Viber associates your phone number with your account. When making a Viber to Viber call it’s free since it eludes carrier tariffs by connecting via the internet. When making an outside call it cost you money because Viber needs to connect via a regular GSM network in order to establish a connection. Got it?

Viber features three tabs. The Speech bubbles tab is as good as any messenger can be. You can search for contacts that are also in your phone book and Viber will show which of them also have an account. The person bust is a list that can also be filtered by Viber users or other. Selecting a contact will bring up that user’s profile from where you can see the contact options. The Four ‘o’clock tab lists your call history and allows you to access the number keypad if you would like to type in a phone number.

Features:

  • Auto-generated contact list – your contact database is compared to Viber’s database to generate relevant cont

  • Group chat – additional contacts can be added to an existing conversatip>
  • Free voice calls – Viber to Viber calls are frp>
  • Low rate out-calls – calls to land or GSM networp>
  • Sticker market – Viber uses stickers instead of emoticons. These can be purchased in app, but there are also free setp>

I’m finding this mobile messenger thing very useful for reconnecting with lost contacts. It’s not limited to Viber, WhatsApp can also help for example. Viber also has a nice interface and the messenger background images are gorgeous!
Pros:

  • Free phone calls over WiFI or mobile data connection.
  • Low rate phone calls over WiFi or mobile data connection.
  • Neatly organized interface.
  • The stickers are cool.

Cons:

  • Actually there’s not much to detest about Viber. Except probably the data security issues that have been discovered*.

*conversation elements such as pictures, videos or map images are not encrypted and can be intercepted.

Conclusion

Viber is arguably the best looking communication app so far. It’s also very accessible.
